 (CANMET-MTL)

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) manages Canada's nation-wide program for the certification of individuals performing non-destructive testing (NDT). The NDT Certifying Agency of NRCan is an independent body that certifies individuals according to the National Standard of Canada, CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006"Qualification and Certification of Non-Destructive Testing Personnel." The National Standard and the NRCan certification procedure comply with the requirements of International Standard ISO 9712:2005 and European Standard EN 473:2000.

Who We Are

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), through the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory (MTL), is the Certifying Agency for the Canadian Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Personnel Certification Program. NRCan certifies individuals according to the Canadian General Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006 (Qualification and Certification of Non-Destructive Testing Personnel).

The NDT Certifying Agency is an independent certification body offering a flexible, and cost-effective method of satisfying the International ISO 9712:2006 Standard (Non-Destructive Testing - Qualification and Certification of Personnel).

NRCan examinations leading to the issue of internationally accepted certificates of competence are available at a number of test centres located in various parts of Canada.

In undertaking the administration of the program, NRCan attempts to provide the unbiased Canada-wide services required to implement a national program. To ensure this, an Advisory Committee composed of individuals knowledgeable about NDT in Canada advises NRCan on the operation of this program.

The NDT Certifying Agency also serves as the qualifying body for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's Exposure Device Operator (CNSC EDO) examination. The CNSC's EDO examination is conducted in the same manner as the NDT certification examinations using the same network of written test centres.
