 Investment Activities and
 the Minerals and Metals Sector

PDAC International Convention and Trade Show
(March 2009)

(See country-specific activities below.)

The Minerals and Metals Sector (MMS) of Natural Resources Canada undertakes activities to:

  • encourage investment in Canada’s domestic minerals and metals sector;
  • protect and maximize the economic benefit to Canada of Canadian mineral operations abroad; and
  • help developing countries and transitional economies maximize the benefits of their mineral endowment.

While engaged in these activities, MMS promotes the concepts of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, both of which are key to the long-term prosperity of the industry.

These activities, undertaken in conjunction with other departments and agencies, provincial and territorial authorities, and the private sector, include:

  • organizing/participating in/co-sponsoring investment promotion workshops and seminars;
  • highlighting Canada’s ability to supply a broad range of equipment and services to the world’s mining community;
  • promoting the benefits of Canada as a centre for raising equity financing for global mineral development;
  • promoting Canadian advances in mining, mineral processing and related technologies;
  • promoting the positive aspects of mining and the development of "mining-friendly" regulations and legislation to foreign institutions/governments, thereby ensuring geological and market access for Canadian mining and mining-service companies, and the integrity of Canadian exploration and mining projects abroad; and
  • protecting Canadian mining interests abroad.
