Minister Raitt Announces Appointment of Temporary Members to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
OTTAWA — The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of two temporary members to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC): Mr. Joseph Kenneth Pereira of Ottawa, Ontario, and Ms. Jocelyne Beaudet of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
“I am very pleased to confirm the appointments of Mr. Pereira and Ms. Beaudet to the CNSC,” said Minister Raitt. “They bring to the table a wealth of experience and expertise in diverse fields, including nuclear energy, public affairs and environmental policy.”
Mr. Pereira is a professional engineer who has worked with the CNSC and has served as the Canadian delegate on the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards. He is also a member of the Government of Canada’s External Advisory Panel of the Federal Executive Committee on Generation IV Reactor Technology.
Ms. Beaudet is a communications consultant who has advised the Office of the Auditor General of Canada on issues related to the Canadian North, organized strategies on climate change and air pollution and has advised the Task Force on Sustainable Transportation for the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy.
The CNSC is mandated to regulate the nuclear sector in Canada. It protects the health, safety and security of Canadians as well as the environment and respects Canada's international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
