OTTAWA – The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of Ms. Lyne Mercier of Montreal to the National Energy Board (NEB). The NEB is the independent federal regulatory board that oversees Canada's oil, gas and electric utility industries.
"Members of the National Energy Board represent the interests of all Canadians in complex matters involving Canada's energy sectors," said Minister Raitt. "Lyne Mercier's extensive experience in the gas industry will serve Canadians well through her membership on this important board."
Ms. Mercier is a senior executive with over 25 years of experience in the North American gas marketplace. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary's University and a Master of Business Administration from École des hautes études commerciales.
The NEB is comprised of six board members, a Chair/CEO and a Vice-chair. The Board is responsible for safety, environmental protection and economic efficiency with respect to the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade. Members of the board serve under tight rules of disclosure to ensure the integrity, regulatory leadership and accountability of the NEB. The NEB reports to Parliament through the Minister of Natural Resources.
