Minister Lunn Announces New Vice-Chairperson of National Energy Board

OTTAWA –The Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of Sheila A. Leggett as the new Vice-Chairperson of the National Energy Board (NEB), effective immediately.

Ms. Leggett is a professional biologist and agrologist with strong leadership and management skills developed through membership on the board of directors of several public and private organizations.

"Ms. Leggett combines a strong background in environmental research with a thorough understanding of provincial and federal regulatory systems," said Minister Lunn. "Her experience in the regulatory, corporate and management sectors of the agricultural and oil and gas industries will be invaluable to the NEB in reaching regulatory decisions."

The Vice-Chairperson also provides mentorship and coaching to other NEB members and senior managers in promoting the NEB's values of integrity, regulatory leadership and accountability. Ms. Leggett's knowledge of best governance practices makes her well qualified to fulfil this important responsibility.

Ms. Leggett holds a Bachelor's degree in biology from McGill University and a Master's degree in biology from the University of Calgary.

The NEB is an independent federal agency that regulates the international and interprovincial aspects of the oil, gas and electric utility industries. It promotes safety, environmental protection and economic efficiency with respect to the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.

The NEB reports to Parliament through the Minister of Natural Resources.
